In 1995, .Gelato owner Alessandro owned a gelaterie in Rome with his mother. Alessandro’s mother, a gelato maker for 22 years, taught him the business and the gelato making technique. Together they created and perfected many gelato recipes. Seeing the opportunity to bring authentic Italian gelato to Canada, Alessandro set out for Toronto and .Gelato Simply Italian first opened it’s doors at Yonge and Eglinton in August of 2010. A second location opened in Yorkville in July 2011.
Starting with only 100 flavours, .Gelato has grown to include 163 flavours with specialty flavours being introduced regularly. By popular demand, .Gelato decided to bring in the best Italian espresso and started offering other gourmet items such as crepes, chocolates, cookies, and panettone. This year Alessandro expanded the menu to include Italian street food such as piadinas (Italian flatbread sandwiches).
Owner Alessandro enjoys being creative in the gelato lab, creating flavours that keep pushing the envelope on how people view gelato. Some of his unique creations include spicy chocolate, black liquorice and pepper, and lime and cilantro. He works very closely with his clientele to find the perfect flavours and recipes. .Gelato Simply Italian is known for its passion and dedication to great tasting, authentic gelato and Italian food using the highest quality ingredients.
